At the inaugural Commercial UAV Expo, V1 Media spoke with Patrick Meier, founder of the Humanitarian UAV Network (UAViators), which has worked in the Philippines to help in the recovery of Cyclone Pam and in Nepal for response to the recent earthquake.

The Commercial UAV Expo debuted from Oct. 5-7, 2015, at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, and more than 1,500 attendees from 30 countries attended the show. The exhibit floor had 120 exhibitors from 14 countries showcasing solutions including airframes, components, sensors, software and services.

Large-enterprise asset owners are eager to take to the skies, said Lisa Murray, director of the Commercial UAV Expo. For many industrial applications, UAV technology has the potential to be a faster, safer and more-accurate way to collect critical data than other methods. However, there are many questions around implementation and integration. Furthermore, there are regulatory hurdles as well as legal and insurance issues that need to be considered.

The 2016 Commercial UAV Expo will take place Oct. 31-Nov. 2, 2016, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. For more information about this or the 2015 event, click here.
