Blue Marble Exhibits in South Africa

Hallowell, Maine, July 8, 2014—Representatives from Blue Marble Geographics ( have just returned from a very successful and exciting trip to Cape Town, South Africa. The trip to South Africa included a Global Mapper Training class held in conjunction with the AfricaGeo Conference. Blue Marble's geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

Blue Marble Geographics offers several training sessions all around the world to customers that want to make the most out of their software investment. On Monday, June 30th, 2014 Blue Marble conducted the popular Global Mapper Training class that was attended by 24 GIS professionals from all over the African continent and beyond. The class was a huge success and included attendees from government departments and educational institutions as well as representatives from the mining and energy industry. Blue Marble attributes the large volume of success of the class to the assistance provided by their South African partner, SMC Synergy, and the fact that it was held in conjunction with the AfricaGeo Conference.

The AfricaGeo Conference is one of the most exciting events that Blue Marble has had the pleasure to attend. The event was held from July 1st through the 3rd at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). There were over 40 exhibitors showcasing the most recent trends within multiple disciplines of Geomatics and over 600 attendees gathered to learn, discuss, and network. Blue Marble showcased Global Mapper, a low-cost and easy-to-use GIS data processing application that offers access to an unparalleled variety of spatial datasets.

“Of all of the conferences that we have attended, the AfricaGeo event was the most interesting,” said Kris Berglund, Vice President for Sales. “Drawing attendees from all areas of the African Continent and beyond, the conference highlighted the importance of geospatial technology for emerging economies.”

Blue Marble’s Senior Applications Specialist, David McKittrick was honored to have been chosen to present a paper at the conference entitled, “Low-Cost GIS for Today’s GIS Professionals”. He demonstrated cost awareness in the implementation of GIS as well as Global Mapper’s ability to provide just the right level of GIS functionality to satisfy both experienced GIS professionals as well as entry-level technicians.
