Announcing the OGC Energy & Utilities Summit, to be held as part of OGC’s December TC Meeting in Charlotte

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Energy & Utilities Domain Working Group (DWG) is excited to announce that its 2nd Energy Summit will be held alongside the December OGC Technical Committee Meeting in Charlotte, NC.

This 2nd Energy & Utilities Summit will examine the role of OGC standards in support of Smart Energy Utilities, Smart Energy Communities, and Smart Energy Networks.

This summit will bring together thought leaders, experts in the energy & utilities domain, world-class researchers, as well as participants from Utilities, Government, Service Providers and Geospatial Solution Providers - including OGC members and non-members alike. The summit aims to explore key trends and pain points, interoperability initiatives/solutions, and opportunities to advance OGC standards through future work.

There are several OGC standards that are pertinent to solving pain points in the energy and utilities domain – this Summit will bring together members of various OGC Domain Working Groups and Standards Working Groups, to better foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.

For background, the 1st Energy Summit, in 2017, resulted in the report and presentations now available on the Energy & Utilities DWG Wiki Page.

The Summit takes place on 11 December 2018, during the OGC Technical Committee Meeting taking place in Charlotte, NC, and hosted by the Electric Power Research Institute. Should you be unable to attend in person, a remote connection will be available, with connection details being found on the TC Meeting agenda. To register for the Energy Summit and the OGC TC Meeting, visit ogcmeet.org.

A preliminary agenda is available from the OGC Portal [pdf].

About OGC

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international consortium of more than 525 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful within any application that needs to be geospatially enabled. Visit the OGC website at www.opengeospatial.org.
