AccuWeather Provides Detailed Forecasting Intelligence for Pope Francis’ First Visit to the U.S.

AccuWeather Global Weather Center, September 121 2015 — AccuWeather, Inc., the global leader in weather information and digital media, will be an integral part of Pope Francis’ first trip to the U.S., a six-day visit through Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia between September 22 and September 26. As the trusted leader in weather information dedicated to supporting events important to the public, AccuWeather is poised to provide full coverage to city officials, first responders, local news networks, visitors on-site, and viewers worldwide.

In Philadelphia, where most public appearances are scheduled, AccuWeather Enterprise Solutions will be working on-site with city public safety and first responder agencies, providing up-to-the-minute weather intelligence to mitigate risk and limit the potential exposure of severe weather’s impact on the outdoor events.

AccuWeather data will be fully integrated with emergency command centers providing breaking weather information through the use of the proprietary portal delivery system and AccuWeather SkyGuard® services, which provide timely, customized, and hyper-localized warnings with Superior Accuracy™ delivered by our expert meteorologists, who will be monitoring the situation 24/7.

In partnership with the Esri Public Safety Assistance Program (EPSAP), AccuWeather will be using proprietary technology and communications to keep attendees safe and first responders prepared through changing weather conditions. Working with Esri, a long-time partner, AccuWeather has been on-site at major events such as the Boston Marathon providing weather information to command centers.

The StoryTeller Digital Touchscreen Solution by AccuWeather, the only complete, interactive touchscreen solution for the complete digital newsroom, will be helping local TV newsrooms cover the pope’s visit with unique and engaging content. With StoryTeller, local TV stations are able to update their audiences with real-time coverage of the pope’s visit with information on traffic, weather, social media, and the pope’s scheduled list of events.

The AccuWeather Network, the only 24×7 “All Weather All the Time” HDTV weather source, will be providing ongoing coverage of forecasts and conditions during Pope Francis’ visit.  The Network will broadcast information, feature videos, and forecasts – including precipitation forecasts, the UV index, and the patented RealFeel Temperature® – for Washington, D.C., New York, and Philadelphia leading up to and including the days that the pope will be greeting the public.  Weather impacts on ground and air travel will also be key features, helping viewers to prepare for the event.

Current forecasts for the U.S. papal visit days and locations will be freely available to the public on web and mobile web sites and through AccuWeather mobile apps.
