Herndon, Va., Sept. 8, 2014”Geography 2050: Mounting an Expedition to the Future is the inaugural event in a multi-year strategic dialoguemeant to help decision makers and the public alike understand the major trends that will reshape the nation and planet between now and 2050.
Hosted by the Earth Institute at Columbia University, with the support of the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), and other partners and sponsors, this one-day event will take place Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the historic Low Memorial Library, site of the Pulitzer Prize Award Ceremony. Geography 2050 offers an opportunity for professionals in industry, government, academia, and the social sector, as well as members of the general public, to collectively explore how geography, spatial thinking, and geospatial data and technologies will enable us to proactively address national and global challenges.
This event is going to be crucial to the formulation of policy over the next decades, bringing geography, geographic thinking, and geographic technology to address these trends that will impact our everyday lives, said Dr. Jerome Dobson, president of the American Geographical Society. It is a rare opportunity for thought leaders across business, government, academia, and the social sector to gather in one place to frame the discussion of forces that are going to impact all of us in virtually every aspect of our daily lives.
The summit will address topics such as:
- Populations, Shifting Identity, and Well Being
- Climate, Risk, and Opportunity
- The Future Energy Landscape
- The Emerging Geography of the Internet of Things
- Investment, Law, and Policy
