Innovative Sensor Fusion Applications for Optech ILRIS to be Showcased at EGU 2014

Toronto, April 22, 2014—Optech, the world leader in the development, manufacture and support of high-accuracy lidar 3D survey systems and productivity-enhancing workflow software, is pleased to announce that it will be at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2014 from April 27 to May 2 in Vienna, Austria. Visitors are invited to drop by to talk with Optech staff at Booth #G08, where we will be exhibiting next to our partner geo-konzept GmbH in #G09.

Sonar-integrated ILRIS surveying the Costa Concordia wreck

Attendees with an interest in lidar/sonar fusion or disaster response will enjoy Optech Worldwide Channel Partner Manager Dario Conforti’s fascinating presentation explaining how Optech distributor Codevintec surveyed the wreck of the Costa Concordia. By combining a motion-compensated Optech ILRIS and a Teledyne RESON SeaBat multi-beam echo sounder on a research vessel, Codevintec mapped the wreck both above and below the surface of the water in a single pass, employing specialized software to merge and visualize their data in real time and provide the final data to the crisis team within hours of their arrival. Be sure to catch this presentation at 13:30–13:45 pm on Monday, April 28 in Room G9.

For more innovative sensor fusion applications using the Optech ILRIS, drop in on Optech partner geo-konzept’s presentation on surveying open pit mines with a combination of terrestrial lidar scanning and UAV-mounted photography. By collecting high-quality, dense lidar data of the crucial vertical faces with a few scans from the ILRIS, and covering the less-critical surfaces of the mine quickly with aerial triangulation data from their geo-X8000 UAV camera system, geo-konzept surveyed an open pit mine with a remarkable combination of speed and precision. If you’re interested in increasing the coverage efficiency and productivity of your terrestrial scanning surveys, you can’t miss their eye-opening presentation at 10:00–10:15 am on Tuesday, April 29 in Room B5.
