AURORA, Colo., June 30, 2014-American Sentinel University, an accredited online university that offers degree programs focused on the needs of high-growth careers, will be exhibiting its innovative competency-based geographic information systems (GIS) degree programs at the 2014 Esri User Conference.

Stationed in booth E107, American Sentinel University’s team of expert GIS faculty, led by GIS Program Chair, Stephen A. McElroy, Ph.D., GISP, will answer questions about the university’s GIS programs and detail how the competency-based GIS programs prepare students to become geospatial leaders with the latest technology trends.

“Mapping, location and geospatial technology are changing the way we see the world and have become an important tool to solve the world’s most diverse problems,” says Dr. McElroy.  “Our geospatial programs provide the framework to develop tomorrow’s technology leaders on the national and global level.”

Dr. McElroy says the university’s competency-based programs offer students the ability to apply geospatial themes in practical ways and prepares them for similar work challenges, requiring them to synthesize data and information and producing creative solutions.

“The hallmarks of a contemporary workplace include sharing insights and collaborating on projects,” says Dr. McElroy.  “Promoting an active learning community prepares our students for a lifetime of success using geospatial technology to solve the challenges of the 21st century.”
