23D Sensing to Demonstrate Interoperability with Maritime UAS at West 2015

Irvine, Calif., Jan. 12, 2015—2d3 Sensing is set to exhibit at West 2015, Booth #2234, in San Diego on February 10 - 12, 2015. The technology leader participated in recent maritime exercises that required end-to-end full motion video (FMV) processing, exploitation, and dissemination (PED) and will demonstrate the value of FMV PED applications in a maritime environment at the show.

In December, 2d3 took part in the maritime demonstration aboard the US Navy vessel, Stiletto, and was tasked with receiving live FMV from the Puma All Environment (AE) unmanned aerial system (UAS) and demonstrating capabilities to ingest, archive, and enhance FMV.  The analysis included providing situational awareness of the Puma’s location, flight path, and sensor field of regard in a 3D geospatial display, as well as creating a number of sample products from the FMV, including annotated still images and video clips, enhanced imagery, image mosaics, and map chips of the Puma’s location and collection area.

“The exercise demonstrated the value of specialized FMV PED applications to get the most operational utility from tactical UAS and glean useful intelligence from the UAS FMV sensors in a maritime environment,” said Mike Kirschke, Director of Business Development at 2d3 Sensing. “It also brought into focus the importance of standards compliance and interoperability that help facilitate integration into existing workflows and systems.”

Earlier in the year, 2d3 also participated in other maritime demonstrations, including the arctic Puma UAS exercise conducted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Coast Guard’s Research and Developer Center, as well as the Trident Spectre 2014 trial, where 2d3 demonstrated exploitation and improvement of FMV from live missions during the exercise.

2d3 has effectively demonstrated interoperability with a host of maritime UAS, including the Lockheed P-3 Orion, Boeing/Insitu ScanEagle, AeroVironment Puma, Northrop Grumman Fire Scout, and Navmar TigerShark.  In addition, the company’s software applications have been utilized in maritime surveillance platforms, such as the ScanEagle, Fire Scout, and Northrop Grumman Triton.
