St Helena Invests in an AIS Based Maritime Domain Management (MDM) System

by | Jul 1, 2015

July 1, 2015”SRT Marine System Solutions has supplied an AIS based MDM system which enables authorities to monitor fishing boats operating across their entire EEZ. The SRT MDM system combines VTS and VMS functionality into a single solution and will assist the authorities with the development and implementation of sustainable fishing practices, prevention of illegal fishing and the improvement of safety and search and rescue.

Fishing vessels are being fitted with a combination of Class A and ABSEA enabled Identifier AIS transceivers which will continuously transmit the vessels activity and GPS position. These transmissions are received in real time by the new shore based network of AIS Coast Stations and exactEarth satellite network. A GeoVS HUB network and data management system located on the island validates, stores and manages the data, while the GeoVS VIEWER systems enable authorities to track real time targets in both dynamic 3D and standard 2D chart overlay along with a wide range of sophisticated licensing, alert, SAR and other management functionality.

Simon Tucker, SRT CEO said: “Being an island in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, the safety and security of their maritime EEZ is of the utmost importance to St Helena authorities. Our MDM system delivers a unique combination of functionality, reliability and cost effectiveness such that maritime stakeholders no long have to compromise functionality for cost to monitor and secure their entire EEZ and beyond.”
