RapidEye Secures Enhanced Data Downlink Support for Australia and Far-East Regions

by | Jun 26, 2013

Berlin, Germany, June 24, 2013”RapidEye, a leader in high-resolution, wide-area repetitive coverage of Earth through its constellation of five satellites, announced today that they have extended and enhanced their ongoing partnership with Kongsberg Satellite Services AS (KSAT). As of early April, RapidEye has an increased data downlink capacity through greater access to KSAT's larger antenna network Svalbard, Norway. These larger strategically placed Northern antennae offer RapidEye the ability to provide more reliable continuous data collection around the globe, particularly in Australia and the Far East.

Additionally, RapidEye has recently upgraded its existing dedicated KSAT antenna with S-Band capability to support TT&C contact with the constellation. The improved communication service allows RapidEye contact with satellites on every orbit, which allows for more agile response and better maintenance of the satellites' health and lifespan. The RapidEye System has proven to be extremely robust and now we can ensure that even further, while enhancing customer services and satisfaction, commented Brian D’Souza, PhD, RapidEye’s VP Technology and Development.

The newly collected imagery is already being added to RapidEye's Archive. Use the EyeFind (http://eyefind.rapideye.com/) archive discovery tool to see the latest updates.
