Call for Expressions of Interest for PhD Scholarship for Forest Resource Assessment

May 11, 2015—Call for expressions of interest in PhD Scholarship for the use of Earth Observation and Spatial Data for Improved Forest Resource Assessment.  The Irish Research Council has opened the call for the 2015 Enterprise Partnership Scheme Postgraduate Scholarship. The deadline for submission of proposals is 16:00 on June 17. 2015

The University of Limerick in collaboration with Coillte Teoranta is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified candidates interested in applying for a PhD Fellowship.

Potential candidates should have a good primary degree (First or Second Class Honours) or M.Sc. in an appropriate discipline (Forestry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, etc.). Forestry experience as well as experience in GIS, remote sensing and computer programming is highly advantageous. Numerical literacy and oral, written and graphical communication skills are also important for this role.


If successful the applicant will register for a four year structured PhD at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Limerick and will be based in Coillte's Forest Resource Planning Unit in Limerick, Ireland.    The student will be supervised by Dr. Ken Byrne (University of Limerick) and Dr. Daniel McInerney (Coillte). The fellowship provides an annual stipend of €16,000 plus fees for four years.
