Islands in the Sun Viewed from Space

The Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus sensor on the Landsat 7 satellite captured this natural-color image of Tahiti on July 11, 2001. The island consists of two old volcanoes—Tahiti-Nui in the northwest and Tahiti-Iti in the southeast—linked by an isthmus.

If the cold of winter is getting you down, take flight to a tropical island. Here are a few relaxing destinations, as viewed from NASA satellites and the International Space Station. We can take your mind, but you'll have to make your own reservations to get your body there!
