PV Labs, Telops Introduce New ISR Tool for Chemical Detection

by | Oct 11, 2011

Toronto, Sept. 28, 2011”PV Labs Inc., a high-end image acquisition and analytics company, and Telops, a leading supplier of infrared hyperspectral imaging sensors, today announced successful aerial performance testing for their new multi-intelligence Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) system.

Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) and High Spatial Resolution Remote Sensing are used in a wide variety of applications related to the detection and identification of chemical threats for military forces. PV Labs collaborated with Telops to design and deliver new levels of Hyperspectral Imaging by combining the HIS with high resolution EO and IR sensors, packaged in a high stability gimbal system optimized for NADIR looking applications. The new sensor system combines the world class performance of Telops' LW-IR Hyperspectral Imaging and high resolution EO and IR sensors with PV Labs' Look Down Gimbal (LDG) to deliver new levels of performance in aerial platforms, which can operate on a wide variety of aircraft including MALE category UAS and King Air 350.

PV Labs' HSI system is an extremely valuable addition to the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) tool kit, providing protection of civil and military interests against Chemical Warfare Agents and Toxic Industrial Chemicals releases, said Ty J. Stattuck, President and CEO of PV Labs. After testing a wide range of targets at the Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) proving grounds in Valcartier, Quebec, operating scenarios were evaluated specifically for meeting the challenges of rapid conversion of image data for decision support intelligence.

Telops President and CEO, Jean Giroux, said We are excited about this new capability that offers the PV Labs state-of-the-art Gimbals for our Hyper-Cam and other EO and IR sensors. This collaboration opens-up new possibilities for our customers to take full advantage of Hyperspectral Imaging.
