Optech Announces a New Automated Monitoring Solution

Toronto, Sept. 30, 2013—Optech, the world leader in the development, manufacture and support of advanced lidar and camera survey instruments, is pleased to announce the upcoming release of the Gexcel Open Pit Mine Monitoring System (OPMMS) for the Optech ILRIS Terrestrial Laser Scanner. Incorporating the combined expertise of Optech and Gexcel Srl, an Italian software solutions company, ILRIS users can now completely automate operations and data processing tasks while controlling the ILRIS remotely through an innovative web-based application.

Whether you need to track mine safety hazards, measure production or manage landslides, you can keep it all under the watchful eye of Optech ILRIS and Gexcel OPMMS. Simply install the ILRIS and define your survey parameters, and the solution will regularly survey the targeted area, analyze the results, and store all data for remote access from the comfort and safety of your office. OPMMS will even send automatic alerts by email, alarm or even text messages if the targeted area exceeds your defined safety thresholds, giving you instantaneous warnings of approaching danger.

“We are very excited about this new offering,” said Dario Conforti, Optech’s Western Europe Regional Sales Manager. “By integrating Gexcel’s powerful JRC 3D Reconstructor software package, we have expanded the capabilities of the ILRIS to include real-time monitoring solutions and the post-analysis tools required for full geotechnical analysis.”

“Once again, we are able to partner with a leading lidar manufacturer and apply our know-how to a specific solution,” said Prof. Giorgio Vassena, CEO of Gexcel. “OPMMS provides value to the mining world by focusing on safety activities and the web-based control of 3D data. Users will appreciate features such as full remote control of the ILRIS, multiple ROIs, truck-masking and external camera integration, though the system really stands out with its automatic data analysis and alerts, including inspection and displacement graphs. The introduction of OPMMS is a key turning point in simplifying the life of safety officers and mine engineers, both on-site and remotely.”

The Gexcel Open Pit Mine Monitoring System for ILRIS will be demonstrated at INTERGEO 2013 (Optech Stand #F3.059 and F3.062, Hall 3) and is available for delivery immediately.
