Bluesky's New Mapshop Offers More Aerial Mapping Data

by | May 26, 2015

Leicestershire, UK, May 26, 2015 -” Aerial mapping company Bluesky has completed a significant upgrade to its online Mapshop including new functionality and new data. For the first time, visitors to www.blueskymapshop.com can now define their own area of interest with new polygon drawing and editing tools. This allows visitors to only purchase the data they need rather than the more traditional option of having to pay for standard sized tiles or boxes of data. The most recently flown aerial photography layers have also been added and can be instantly downloaded.

Bluesky will be showcasing its online Mapshop at GEO Business, the UK's biggest geospatial event, which takes place from the 27-28 May at the Business design Centre in London.

The Bluesky Mapshop already offers complete nationwide coverage of aerial photography with multiple ages available for every location. The two new layers ˜Standard 25cm Update' and ˜High Res 12.5cm Update' allow visitors to view and download the most up to date, high resolution aerial photography of England and Wales which includes brand new images covering the whole of Wales as well as Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire and Kingston-upon-Hull.

Visitors can also select 3D data including Digital Terrain and Surface Models (DTM / DSM) for all of England and Wales, and more accurate LiDAR data for most areas. Thermal Mapping is available online for selected areas, and the National Tree Mapâ„¢ data now covers all of England and Wales and is available for instant download. Visitors to the Bluesky Mapshop can download free of charge geological, land cover and flood maps. Other map layers that are available for free through www.blueskymap.com include places of interest, such as battlefields, World Heritage sites and registered parks and gardens, census areas and collections of themed data such as farming, marine and habitats.

We are continually improving the service we offer to our online customers both through the functionality of the Bluesky Mapshop as well as the range of data we offer, commented Rachel Tidmarsh, Managing Director of Leicestershire based Bluesky International. The latest upgrade represents a major shift in the way data can be purchased online, with the user defining the exact area they require; either using the new polygon drawing tools or by uploading a GIS ready file. This means they are only paying for the data they need!

Additional functionality and service improvements that have been added in the latest upgrade include a simplification in the licensing process. Bluesky is also now giving visitors to the Mapshop the ability to purchase data on behalf of a third party with the option of a Sub Contractor Licence.
