The award was presented by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) at the 12th GEOINT Symposium. The event this year was held in Orlando, Florida. The prize recognises and celebrates those who have distinguished themselves in the field of research, study and implementation of geospatial solutions and technologies supporting governments and private industry and helping improve decision-making processes.

Kevin Jackson, the USGIF Awards Subcomittee Chair state that the number of nominations for the 2016 USGIF Award has beaten all records of previous years. ABACO was chosen in a highly competitive category, featuring in past years companies such as Google and Digitalglobe.

Fabio Slaviero from ABACO’s Business Development International Department affirmed that ABACO has shown to have contributed to the innovation of processes and models by developing advanced techniques for representation and transformation of “big data” and marrying this up with accessibility and ease of use through knowledge systems mainly applied in the realm of agriculture. The main result of ABACO’s R&D effort was the creation of Farm Visor – an augmented reality application which can be used on a tablet or smartphone.

The application is able to combine information coming from a range of sources and contributes daily to the planning and management of tasks in the farming industry.

ABACO is a European leader in the field of information technology and produces information systems for land knowledge and management by offering in Europe and elsewhere its TRP (Territory Resource Planning).
