ScanEagle is a low-cost, long-endurance unmanned aircraft system. Firefighters in Washington state hope the ScanEagle will provide valuable intelligence as it monitors wildfires

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) plans to test the use of a ScanEagle drone built by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing, to monitor wildfires this summer.

DNR currently uses airplanes and helicopters for fire surveillance, but they can be grounded by smoke, wind or darkness.
